Maschinenhaus Schwabing

The gutting of the machine house has been completed and the construction work to transform the building is in full swing. The core of the concept is an innovative low-tech approach: the building is simply designed and operated with the natural resources of the outside space, without complex technical and maintenance-intensive solutions. ehret+klein is relying on cooperation with the Technical University of Munich and its subsidiary e+k upcycle, which specializes in sustainability.

Next level work

The Maschinenhaus is an example of what is possible when boundaries are broken down and spatial concepts beyond the traditional walls are conceived. Surrounded by the listed building, exposed office space rises up on two floors. The extensions provide space for restaurants and other office areas.

A building that breathes and thinks

Water circuits with minimal consumption, underfloor heating with individual room control and the heating of the fresh air flow for natural office ventilation via special convectors make the conversion of the listed building a sustainable showcase project. All in the spirit of low-tech. Because sometimes less is more.

      Culinary cult

Individualists will find the perfect backdrop for unusual restaurant concepts in the Maschinenhaus. The outdoor area framed by the building sections creates a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Dining here is transformed from a routine into an experience.

        Historical monument

The listed Maschinenhaus is an iconic building that, as Munich's first combined heat and power plant, has always claimed to be innovative and is now home to visionary companies. It is not a simple office location, but a living synthesis of tradition and innovation. A statement. For your success!

          Art and culture with broke.today

broke.today is a Munich-based collective of street artists, designers, musicians, architects, craftsmen and creative professionals. They are reactivating the Maschinenhaus and transforming it into a temporary meeting place for art, culture, crafts, technology, and sports. ehret+klein is making the building available free of charge until probably mid-2022 and is providing financial support for the interim use project.
